You only have to take a peek inside the new North for Men salon to see the devotion that Lisa and Richard North have given to a family business established in 1937. Their passion for men's hairdressing has successfully brought the business into the 21st century.

"It's a fantastic place," says Richard. "The idea was to create a Mecca for men's hairdressing, so they can feel at ease, but also know that the standard of hairdressing is higher than, perhaps, a more traditional barber shop."

Men looking for a better haircut and service in the past have often used unisex salons, in effect women's salons that cater for a few men, usually as a fringe service.

Richard said, "We are attracting men who like 'regular guy' things, football, pubs and cars, but who also take pride in their appearance."

The clientele at North is a happy mix of young and old, from cutting-edge fashionistas to professional businessmen. And that is why we have devised a list of services tailored especially to every individual's needs.

The super-cool air-conditioned salon has also become a favourite haunt for celebs, with Yorkshire cricket stars and singer Peter Grant regular customers.
